Due to the lockdown, in March, Doordarshan decided to bring back their popular 90s shows Ramayan and Mahabharat. In no time, both the mythological dramas broke the TRP records. During this time of crisis, people are keeping themselves busy by binge-watching both the shows.

While the return of the shows has proved great for DD and the actors, it has also caused a bit of trouble for some people. This is what a few doctors feel so. Ramayan and Mahabharat have great viewership and the new generation is watching it too. But some kids have lost their eyesight as they tried to practice bow-and-arrow games.

As reported by Times of India, at least 12 children in Hyderabad have lost eyesight of one eye in the past few days. The doctors said that it is not happening due to Coronavirus, but the kids copying bow and arrow technique as the characters do it in Ramayan and Mahabharat.

Doctor Subhadra Jalali, director of Retina Institute at LVPEI told the daily, “When Ramayana was telecast about two decades back, we saw many bow-and-arrow injuries. For about 15 years we did not see these injuries, but the numbers are starting to rise again. In an attempt to copy the central characters (from TV shows), kids make their own bow-and-arrow games.”

Meanwhile, Ramayan recently broke the world record of garnering the highest TRP leaving behind the finale of shows like The Big Bang Theory and Game of Thrones. We wonder what the actors of both these shows have to say about the eye injuries news.
